Best Time to Do Char Dham Yatra

The Char Dham Yatra operates only during a specific window each year as the temples remain closed during winter due to heavy snowfall. The shrines typically open in late April / early May (on auspicious Akshaya Tritiya dates) and close by November (Diwali / Bhai Dooj).

  • April–May: Opening season; cool, manageable crowds.
  • June: Peak season; best weather but high crowds.
  • July–Aug: Monsoon; landslide risk; roads may close.
  • Sep–Oct: Post-monsoon; pleasant; moderate crowds.
  • Nov–Mar: Temples closed; region inaccessible.
  • May (recommended): Flowers in bloom; clear skies; ideal trekking.

Recommended window: Late April to early June and September to October offer the best combination of good weather, open roads, and manageable footfall.
