Deadly Cloudburst in Ramban, Jammu & Kashmir
Ramban Cloudburst : The serene landscape of Jammu and Kashmir has once again been marred by a natural disaster, as a devastating cloudburst in the early hours of Saturday struck Rajgarh village in the Ramban district. The incident, which occurred around 12:30 a.m., has left a trail of destruction, claiming at least three lives and leaving four people missing.
The sudden and powerful deluge, a result of the intense cloudburst, washed away two residential houses and a school building. The swift and brutal force of the floodwaters caught residents by surprise, leading to the tragic loss of life and a desperate search for the missing.
A massive rescue operation is currently underway, with teams from various agencies deployed to the site. Their primary objective is to locate the four missing individuals and provide assistance to those affected by the disaster. The treacherous conditions, however, are making the rescue efforts challenging.
This incident in Ramban is the latest in a series of similar weather events to hit the Himalayan region. Just a day prior, Uttarakhand experienced multiple cloudbursts that resulted in five deaths and 11 people missing. Further north, the popular tourist town of Manali in Himachal Pradesh witnessed parts of the area along the river being washed away by the relentless monsoon rains. The region’s infrastructure has also been severely impacted, with the Jammu-Srinagar highway remaining blocked for the fifth consecutive day, disrupting a vital link for communication and travel.
The recent spate of natural calamities underscores the heightened vulnerability of the Himalayan states to extreme weather events. Authorities are urging residents and travelers to exercise extreme caution and stay updated on the latest weather advisories.
